2010 Star Partner Award Recipients

Cerner Corporation

Cerner Corporation is well known for its involvement with area students. One of the most dramatic involves a new partnership with Metropolitan Community College that was created to strengthen and build a strong workforce in the Northland and to tap local talent and resources in the community.

An IT internship program was developed for Metropolitan Community College (MCC) students to gain more knowledge and experience in the computer science field. The new KCIT Internship Program was designed exclusively for MCC students. The college works closely with Cerner in developing a curriculum that is very specific to the needs of Cerner for the interns, who are responsible for network and systems administration.

The work itself is advanced. Interns are responsible for system configurations, backups, troubleshooting and monitoring. Interns identify problems and provide solutions.

The three-month program offers an opportunity for interns to extend their work or retu8rn as full-time Cerner associates. The pilot program consisted of 15 interns who started with Cerner in January. Cerner is currently recruiting and interviewing for a summer session.
