Builders' Association Training Center
The Builders’ Association Education and Training Center is an educational facility providing training for contractors in the construction industry.
Over the past 20 years, the partnership has grown from approximately 600 apprentices to a high of 3,600. The current economy has slowed that somewhat, but partnerships with area career centers have grown to more than 26 and 28 construction programs, including North Kansas City High School.
A major benefit is placement of students into a construction career. Through the Tech Prep Consortium, which includes North Kansas City High School, students receive advance placement in the apprenticeship program. This means a higher per hour wage once the student enters the apprenticeship program, and the student receives 30 hours of college credit through Metropolitan Community College. Best of all, the student does not pay for the training, worth approximately $3,500 per year.
This not only benefits students who receive direct placement and advance credit, but contractors benefit form a well-trained workforce. Each year, this program impacts approximately 1,000 students.
